Banana bread

Time

  • Preparation time: 25 minutes (if chocolate is shredded by hand)
  • Cooking time: 1 hour and 10 minutes
  • Total time: 1 hour and 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe bananas (frozen or not)
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 113 g baking chocolate -1/2 cup walnuts

Other material needed:

  • cake dish
  • an oven

Method

  1. Shred the chocolate in small pieces using a knife Note: this provides chunks and chocolate powder.
  2. Preheat the oven at 350°F (180°C)
  3. Melt butter (30-45 sec in microwave)
  4. In a mixing bowl, mash bananas and add milk Note: It is okay if there are chunks of banana left
  5. Add melted butter, sugar & egg and mix well using a fork or a whisk
  6. Add the flour and mix using a wooden spatula
  7. Combine the shredded chocolate and nuts
  8. Butter a cake dish
  9. Add the batter into the dish
  10. Cook in the pre-heated oven, uncovered for 55 minutes.
  11. Cover the cake with foil and cook for an additional 15 minutes.
  12. Check the the banana bread is cooked using a knife.
